Pierre Bonnefille and the Argile story

The beginning of the Argile story can be traced back to the meeting of entrepreneur Jean Frederic Nothomb with the artist, designer, and decorator Pierre Bonnefille. In his works, Bonnefille intertwines materials, colors, and light seamlessly. He creates his own textures using natural pigments and powders obtained from minerals, limestone, lava, earth, and metals.

Jean Frederic Nothomb proposed creating a collection of premium paints under the brand Argile for architects, decorators, scenographers, and anyone who appreciates the significance of colors and their influence in creating the right ambiance in a space.

The Argile Terre collection

As a result, Pierre Bonnefille developed the Terre (“Earth”) palette, inspired by the endless richness of earth, sand, and rocks. It took Bonnefille, an experienced colorist, over 10 years to create this collection of 128 colors! The results speak for themselves. The meticulously curated palette of natural, slightly dusty hues fills interiors with what feels like therapeutic properties. Among the vast array of designer paints available, the Argile palette stands out unequivocally.

The Végétal and Ciel collections

Following the “Earth colors” collection, Argile released the Végétal (“Vegetal”) palette. It encompasses 56 shades inspired by the world of plants, ranging from trees and ferns to moss and lichen.

More recently, Argile introduced a new capsule palette called Ciel (“Sky”), complementing the Terre and Végétal collections. Ciel gathers sensual shades of sunset, sunrise, Mediterranean, Far Eastern, and northern skies in a range from soft reds to nuanced blues.

The unique narmony of Argile colors

Argile possesses a truly unique feature — the combination of colors within the palette. Any favorite color goes well with any other! You can simply take a Cover box with real paint samples in our showroom, lay them out upside down, and randomly pick any three, four, or even five colors. Flip them back – and there you have it, the magic of Argile: all the colors will harmoniously complement each other. We haven’t come across this effect with any other interior paint manufacturer, and this ability makes Argile’s product truly special and one-of-a-kind.
